Get Wild About Reading at the Honolulu Zoo

Kainoa Sep 2, 2026

Kids Hurt Too Hawaiʻi families are invited to get Wild About Reading this September! Join Hawaiʻi Literacy for its First Annual Wild About Reading event at the Honolulu Zoo on Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Throughout the day, keiki and families can explore the Zoo while enjoying special story readings in fun locations alongside some of their favorite animals. The event celebrates the joy of reading, imagination, and discovery while creating a unique opportunity for families to experience literacy in a whole new way.

The day will also celebrate the launch of P Is for Pueo: A Hawaiian Alphabet Book, written and illustrated by Katie Tobin, a bird keeper at the Honolulu Zoo. The children’s book introduces young readers to Hawaiʻi’s native birds through the alphabet and encourages curiosity about our islands’ wildlife and natural environment.

Bring the ʻohana, explore the Zoo, and discover why everyone loves a good story—humans and animals alike!
